One of the easiest costumes to make at home on a budget is the Moon Costume! This costume idea is not only easy to make, but also versatile in that it works for both children and adults.
How to make a handmade Moon Costume
If you have a sewing machine, all you will need to make this outfit is a bunch of white fabric, and foam. Foam is used as the stuffing underneath the fabric because it is lightweight and easy to shape. You can get the foam in a fabric or craft store such as Hobby Lobby…(tip: purchase the foam online for a cheaper price!) Cut the foam to the correct shape and size – use glue or staples to get the foam fitted around the body. Take measurements for the white fabric that will cover the body of the “moon”. Someone with a little sewing skill can sew the fabric so that it fits over the foam like a pillowcase – be sure to leave holes for your arms and legs!
There are other choices if you dont want to have the moon around your midsection…for example, your head can be the moon! Simply wear all black over the rest of your body and make a half moon shape to cover your head. Paper mache works great to create the correct effect! Not too creative? These costumes are also sold online! 🙂
The girl moon costume…
Girls might think a moon costume is kind of boring, but really, it can be very cute…think moon wings, and glittery stars in your hair and around the arms. Pair it with a long dark skirt and you’re a moon princess!
The Baby Moon Outfit
Finally, this is a great outfit idea for a baby! One of the more popular ideas is to be a Moon Care Bear! This is a very cute outfit that includes a hoodie to cover the baby’s head with ears and a snout! If it’s warm, and this full cover-up idea is too much, you can also find baby onsies in the moon theme! These usually just have an image of a moon or a star on them, but sometimes that’s all you need! 🙂
